Reputed gang member Kirkton Phenor Moore was convicted Wednesday of murdering a Los Angeles police officer during a chase that followed a gang retaliation shooting in Hyde Park in 1988.
After four and a half days of deliberation, a Superior Court jury found Moore, 29, guilty of first-degree murder and four counts of attempted murder.
On Sept. 3, 1988, Officer Daniel Pratt was shot in the face during an exchange of gunfire near Florence Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard. Pratt and his partner, Veronica DeLao, had been chasing a car they saw leaving a drive-by shooting.
Moore was found guilty of attempting to kill DeLao, two men shot during the drive-by incident and a neighbor struck by bullet fragments. The special circumstances murder charge means he faces a possible death sentence.
