PRO FOOTBALL REPORT : WEEKDAY UPDATE : AROUND THE NFL : Manley Asks That Ban Be Lifted
Dexter Manley has applied to Commissioner Paul Tagliabue to lift the lifetime ban against the Washington Redskin defensive end for violating the NFL’s substance abuse rules, Manley’s attorney said.
“My hope and belief is that he will be compassionate and sympathetic to Dexter,” attorney Bob Woolf said.
Tagliabue has said he would consider reinstating the 10-year veteran after Nov. 18, the first anniversary of Manley’s ban for using cocaine. Manley is working as a volunteer at a substance-abuse treatment center in Houston.
