Venice Speedway Will Get Face Lift
Speedway, the much-traveled Venice beach thoroughfare, will be getting a face lift early Monday morning.
City maintenance crews will begin a six-week repaving project at Navy Street and move south to Washington Boulevard. Crews will work in four- to six-block segments.
Residents will be able to park at night, but will have no automobile access from 6 a.m. until 4 p.m., according to a press release from Councilwoman Ruth Galanter’s office.
Deliveries to Ocean Front Walk merchants can be made from Ocean Front Walk, rather than Speedway, with access at Windward, Westminister, Brooks and Rose avenues.
Speedway, one block east of Ocean Front Walk, is a key access way for residents of the Venice Walk streets, as well as beach-goers. One benefit of the new asphalt surface is that street-cleaning vehicles will be more efficient, Galanter said.
