Japanese Firm Discussing RTC Loan Deal: The U.S. subsidiary of Nomura Securities is talking to the federal Resolution Trust Corp. about acquiring $1 billion in commercial loans of failed savings and loans, the Wall Street Journal reported. The proposed transaction would be the RTC’s largest and one of the first with a Japanese investor. The deal wouldn’t close until February at the earliest, the story said. A source that the Journal did not identify said Nomura asked about acquiring the loans from a variety of failed thrifts that have not yet been packaged.
