OXNARD : Takasugi, Lopez Are Top Fund-Raisers

In the race for campaign contributions, Oxnard Mayor Nao Takasugi is far ahead of his five challengers with $55,493 and Councilman Manuel Lopez leads 11 other City Council candidates with $48,105, according to campaign statements.

The statements, the final documentation of fund raising and spending before the Nov. 6 election, were filed last week with the city clerk’s office.

So far this year, Takasugi has spent $43,523, according to campaign statements. Lopez, who bolstered his war chest by giving his campaign a $30,000 loan, has spent $12,280, the statements said.

Among the other mayoral candidates are Scott Bollinger, a self-employed investor who has raised $14,170 and has spent $7,198; Councilwoman Dorothy Maron who has raised $10,563 and has spent $5,014; and John Cobian, a court interpreter who has raised $4,980 and has spent $3,809.

Mayoral candidates Deborah DeMoss, a homemaker, and John Soria, a semi-retired administrator, have raised less than $1,000 and are not required to file a statement.

The other City Council candidates are Michael Plisky, a business and tax consultant who has raised $22,613 and spent $15,901; Councilwoman Ann Johs, who has raised $13,998 and spent $19,376; Roy Lockwood, a retired fire chief who has given his campaign a $10,000 loan and has spent $7,864 of it; Bedford Pinkard, a city recreation supervisor who has raised $6,700 and spent $4,197; Eleanor Branthoover, chairwoman of the Inter-Neighborhood Council who has raised $5,391 and spent $4,792; Scott Weiss, an accountant who has raised $4,039 and spent $2,843; and Paul Chatman, manager of a department store who has raised $2,968 and has spent $2,109.

Accountant Richard Morrisset, retired aerospace engineer Fred Schwartz, retired refuse supervisor Robert Randolph and retired butcher Oscar Karrin have raised less than $1,000 and did not file statements.
