WORLD : Tiger Helps Catch Jail Escapee
A hungry tiger put an end to an Indonesian jailbreak, chasing an escaped prisoner up a tree and besieging him for two days.
Antara news agency today said a 40-year-old teacher held in Indonesia’s staunchly Islamic province of Aceh for running away with a young student broke out of his cell last week and fled to the jungle. He was driven up a tree by a tiger looking for a meal. The beast gave up hope after two days, and the teacher came down safely. But by then, the teacher was so hungry himself he knocked on the first door he found and asked for a meal, Antara reported.
The off-duty police officer who answered the knock recognized the teacher, fed him and returned him to his cell.
