South El Monte : 125 Protest Rent Increase

Share

About 125 people packed every seat and stood in the back of the City Council chamber last week to protest rental increases of up to 50% at the El Monte Mobile Air trailer park.

Mayor Stanley Quintana suggested that the group select six representatives to meet with a newly formed rental review board to try to mediate the complaints about rents and a number of repair and maintenance issues.

In other action, the council gave final approval to an ordinance prohibiting smoking in polling places and in public access areas of all buildings owned or leased by the city. The new law takes effect Nov. 24.
