Bendix to Phase Out Some Brake Operations

The Bendix Automotive Systems Group of Allied-Signal Inc. has announced plans to phase out some vehicle disc brake operations at its St. Joseph, Mich., complex and build a facility in Roanoke, VA.

Comapny spokesman Pete Leatherwood said about 550 of the 1,200 hourly and salaried workers at the St. Joseph plant could be affected within the next three to five years because of the decision to build the new plant.

Bendix, the world’s leading supplier of brake systems for cars and trucks, now builds disc brakes for North American cars and light trucks complex in St. Joseph.
