‘A’ IS FOR AWFUL
Ex-teacher Shearer is insightful in concluding that public education has deteriorated so badly that “it is time to try something--anything--else.” Two major reforms are needed. First, teachers should be credentialed on the basis of their demonstrated knowledge, skills and character, rather than on how many university education courses they have taken. Second, parents (at least those with low incomes) must be given the choice as to what schools their children will attend. Parents should be given financial educational vouchers they can redeem at schools of their choice for their children’s education.
These two educational renovations will result in “A” Is for Achievement.
