THE SIDELINES : Olympic Bidders Invited to Talk

Share

The six cities that bid to host the 1996 Olympics have been invited to the headquarters of the Games to air their grievances and talk about improving the process.

The International Olympic Committee said today that it has asked Atlanta, the chosen host, and the five unsuccessful bidders to send delegations to Lausanne, Switzerland, on Jan. 9 at the IOC’s expense.

Each three-member delegation would spend 75 minutes with IOC officials, exchanging views on the bids that took up to four years and cost an estimated total of $100 million.

“The bidding cities are the fresh blood of the Olympic movement,” IOC spokeswoman Michele Verdier said. “We have to hear their concerns and give them guidelines on how to act and react.”
