A suitcase containing more than $300,000 was found beside a man who was shot and injured in Studio City, police reported this morning.

The victim, Tony James Holmes, 33, of Acton denied that the money belongs to him.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting at 9:30 p.m. Monday in the 4200 block of Vineland Avenue were not clear, said Detective Mike Coffey. No arrests were made.

After receiving reports of gunshots in the area, police found Holmes lying on the ground near an apartment complex. He had been shot in the groin area and an arm.

Holmes was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank for treatment of his wounds. He was described as uncooperative.

The suitcase was taken to the North Hollywood Division police station where it was opened and officers found between $300,000 and $500,000 in it, Coffey said.

“He says it’s not his,” Coffey said of Holmes.

Coffey said an investigation of the shooting and the origin of the money is continuing.
