Browning-Ferris Industries: The Houston-based waste services company reported a net loss of $44.7 million in its year-end results, contrasted with net income of $262.6 million in fiscal 1989. The firm cited special charges, including $67.1 million for the settlement of litigation and a $295-million charge to discontinue its hazardous waste operations. Revenue in 1990 was $3 billion, up from $2.5 billion last year. The company collects, transports, treats and disposes commercial, residential and industrial wastes.
