BellSouth to Offer Golden Handshake: The Atlanta-based company said it will offer a special early retirement option to certain managers in an effort to cut its management staff by 3,000, or about 10%. The plan features a special one-time payment to those agreeing to leave between Dec. 1 and April 30, 1991. BellSouth declined to say how much the plan is expected to cost but added that it will take a toll on short-term earnings and the company will take a one-time charge in the fourth quarter.
