Ask Computer to Lay Off 270: Ask Computer Systems said the reduction, affecting 12% of its worldwide work force, will reduce redundancies created by its $110-million purchase of Ingres Corp. Mountain View-based Ask, which sells computer systems and software to manufacturing companies, took control of software developer Ingres on Oct. 22.
