Elwood Martin Ingledue; Publisher

Elwood Martin Ingledue, who had lived in Glendale since 1911, has died at his home. He was 91.

Ingledue died Monday after suffering a stroke, said his son, Ronald E. Ingledue.

Born June 21, 1899, in Lima, Ohio, Ingledue came to California in 1908, graduated from Glendale High School and earned a degree from Occidental College in 1923. In 1936, he founded the Hotel and Travel Index, a directory for travel agents that he published in addition to four other travel guides until 1975. He then founded the International Golf Directory, which he continued to publish until his death.

A world traveler, Ingledue was a member of the Glendale Kiwanis Club, the Jewel City Masonic Lodge in Glendale, American Society of Travel Agents, California State Hotel-Motel Assn., Hotel Sales Management Assn. and was former president of the Travelers Century Club.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Alice Lee Ingledue; a son, Ronald E. Ingledue of Glendale; stepsons John Gregg and Robert Gregg of Glendale; a stepdaughter, Linda Lee Muller of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a sister Helen Davidson of Brentwood; and two granddaughters.

A memorial service is scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church of Glendale, 134 N. Kenwood St., where he was a member. Kiefer & Eyerick Mortuary in Glendale is handling the arrangements. Donations can be made in Ingledue’s name to the First United Methodist Church of Glendale or to the Glendale Family YMCA.
