Hughes Danbury Optical Systems Inc., citing federal budget cuts, says it will cut about 90 jobs early next month, trimming its 920-person force by about 10%.

The layoffs of salaried workers likely will account for most of the cutback, but some jobs will be cut through attrition, company spokesman Tom Arconti said.

Arconti said the company will attempt to transfer some of those dismissed to jobs in other business units of its parent company, Los Angeles-based Hughes Aircraft, a division of General Motors Corp. Those units are in California and elsewhere around the nation, he said.
