Mainstreaming Handicapped Schoolchildren

Share

Being the parent of a 20-year-old son with severe learning problems, I was delighted to see your article.

The LAUSD has been notoriously slow in integrating students with severe disabilities and that is one reason why we left the L.A. area when our son was 5. He has been in integrated schools in Santa Barbara since the age of 5 and has gained considerable social and language skills he would not have acquired in a segregated school.

Parents are quickly realizing their rights and will no longer settle for segregation.

It is clear that the LAUSD Special Education Division needs some new vision at the top!
