West Hollywood: Voters rejected Proposition AA, which would have legalized card-club gambling, by 77% to 23%. The measure got 2,461 “yes” votes and 8,066 “no” votes.

Santa Monica: In the City Council race, the outcome may depend on an estimated 4,000 to 4,500 absentee ballots that remain uncounted and will probably not be tallied until next week. The top three vote-getters in the field of nine will be elected. Tony Vazquez led the pack with 13,428 votes, followed Robert T. Holbrook with 12,738, Kelly Olsen with 12,189, incumbent Christine Reed with 11,362 and Donna M. Alvarez with 11,059. Major ballot measures :

Proposition U (vacancy decontrol): Yes--41%, No--59%

Proposition W (rent control changes): Yes--50.2%, No--49.8%

Proposition Y (elected city attorney): Yes--42%, No--58%

Proposition Z (repeal of approval for beach hotel): Yes--62%, No--38%

Proposition ES (school district bond): Yes--74%, No--26%
