THE SIDELINES : Chavez Wins Non-Title Fight
io Cesar Chavez, the undefeated world super-lightweight champion, stopped fellow Mexican Jaime “Rocky” Balboa in the fourth round of a scheduled 10-round non-title fight Thursday night.
Chavez unleashed a series of jabs to the face that left Balboa helpless at 2 minutes, 10 seconds, into the fourth round.
When the fight was stopped, Balboa (41-12) had a split left eyebrow and was bleeding through the nose and mouth.
Chavez, the World Boxing Council and International Boxing Federation champion, will defend his titles Dec. 8 at Atlantic City, N.J., against South Korea’s Kyung Duk Ahn.
