NBA ROUNDUP : Blazers Beat Pistons, Stay Unbeaten

Share

It wasn’t the same as winning a game in the championship series, but there was a measure of revenge for the Trail Blazers Friday night at Portland.

With Terry Porter scoring 29 points and getting 10 assists, the Trail Blazers beat the Detroit Pistons, 113-101, to improve their record to 4-0.

When the Pistons won their second consecutive NBA championship last spring, they swept all three games at Portland after the Blazers won the second game of the best of seven series.

“We thought we were the better team last spring,” said Kevin Duckworth, who had 27 points. “There was no excuse for losing three in a row on our own court.”

“I knew they would want to abuse us for what we did to them in the finals,” Coach Chuck Daly of the 3-2 Pistons said. “But, after all, it’s still just a regular-season game.”

It was the Pistons’ 21st regular-season loss in a row at Portland.

Chicago 120, Boston 100--Michael Jordan, recovering from flu, scored 41 points to lead the Bulls at Boston.

Jordan scored 12 points during a 19-7 burst early in the third quarter. The Celtics, who beat the Bulls at Chicago Tuesday night, had gone ahead, 63-62.

Jordan began the spurt with a dunk and finished it was a jumper. The Celtics never regained the lead.

“This is the team we want to be,” Jordan said after playing only 34 minutes. “This is how we want to play. That was a tough loss for us at home. This time we kept the pressure on them.”

It was only the Bulls’ third victory in their last 15 regular-season games at Boston Garden.

Indiana 122, Cleveland 107--Chuck Person sank four three-pointers and Reggie Miller three as the Pacers pulled away in the second half.

Miller had 13 of his 28 points in the fourth quarter as Indiana improved to 3-1.

Golden State 143, Atlanta 128--Chris Mullin and Tim Hardaway led a 40-20 surge in the third quarter by the Warriors at Oakland.

Mullin finished with 40 points, and Hardaway was a rebound short of a triple-double. Hardaway had 28 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds.

Seattle 135, Denver 129--Walter Davis had 41 points and Orlando Woolridge 31, but the rest of the Nuggets were cold at Denver.

The SuperSonics led by only 129-126 with 1:15 to play, but the Sonics scored the next four points to seal the victory.
