Collier Vale

I can’t imagine how Miles Corwin’s article “Informant’s Murder Led Prosecutor to Suicide” (Part A, Nov. 5) can miss being considered for a Pulitzer Prize. It is a heart-wrenching story beautifully told. It is a eulogy to comfort those who knew Collier Vale personally, and to the rest of us in your readership who wished they might have known someone so conscientious, capable and admirable as Vale (a prosecutor in the Monterey County district attorney’s office).

This story makes me wonder if Vale was an exception in his profession, or whether there are others like him who are doing their jobs superlatively, who are also vulnerable to being struck down by “human error.”
