Paramount : Students at 2 Intermediate Schools Get to Keep Lockers

Share

Students at two intermediate schools will be allowed to keep using lockers, the Paramount Unified School District board has decided. The board Tuesday rejected a proposal by administrators at Clearwater and Alondra intermediate schools to close student lockers permanently.

Administrators said in October that the lockers were causing student congestion in hallways, and suggested that the school district buy two sets of textbooks so that students could use one in the classroom and keep the other at home. But the school board said buying a second set of books, at an estimated cost of $105,000, would be too expensive.

Board member Kenneth Teeples said, “If we had the money it would be something to look into at greater depth. But we already have the lockers there, and we don’t have the ($105,000).”

Other board members said that students deserve to have the lockers, and added that the congestion caused by the lockers was minimal. Clearwater and Alondra intermediate schools each have approximately 1,400 students.
