A 76-year-old Studio City man was struck by a van and killed while crossing a street near his home, and a suspect was arrested after returning to the scene of the accident two hours later, Los Angeles police said Wednesday.

The name of the victim was not released pending notification of his family. Officer Leona Thomas said he was attempting to cross Coldwater Canyon Avenue at Landale Street about 6:45 p.m. Tuesday when he was struck.

Police said the van that killed the pedestrian did not stop. While officers were on the scene investigating the accident about 8:45 p.m., Greg Ledergerber, 28, of Van Nuys arrived and surrendered to police, Thomas said. He was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run driving, she said.

Thomas said Ledergerber told investigators that he had gone home after the accident and called an attorney, who told him to surrender.
