Disputed Facts Concerning State Water

Share

In regard to the question of releasing state water from Pyramid to Saticoy, I respect the Ventura City Council for considering the issue and applaud those who voted in favor of ordering state water.

The facts were misunderstood by the opposition:

* Contrary to early analysis by city staff, the cost would be zero if the order is canceled by April 1, 1991.

* The Ventura council majority seemed to believe that little of the water would reach Saticoy. It was pointed out to them that water would only be released during natural flow periods and not when the river was bone-dry.

* The majority ruled out considering bringing water through the same pipeline as they helped arrange for Santa Barbara. This arrangement can be used only if an emergency declaration is made.

Please remember that if 1990-91 brings rain, it will not be enough to make up for the four years of drought.
