OJAI : SANTA PAULA : High School to Cut English Class Sizes

Share

Freshmen English classes at Santa Paula High School will contain fewer students for the semester beginning in February.

The classes will be reduced to a maximum of 20 students per teacher from the present 27-to-1 ratio, said Carolina Erie, Santa Paula Union High School District superintendent.

“Because we don’t have very large classes to begin with, we don’t have the problem some school districts do making the adjustment,” Erie said.

The reduction will occur at the semester break, Erie said. One teacher will be hired for the five classes the district will add to the English classes now taken by 400 freshmen. The new teacher’s salary will be paid with state funds.
