Educators Attend State Reading Workshops
San Gabriel Valley educators were well-represented at last weekend’s annual California Reading Assn. state conference in Anaheim.
The conference organizers included Kathy Naylor, a curriculum adviser for the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District.
Teachers and curriculum experts who presented reading-related workshops included: La Vonne Stranak, Kandy Fisher, Dee Rathman, Dale Schafer, Connie Nelson and Lucie Gomez from Hacienda La Puente; Pat Holt and Lisa Blau from the Covina-Valley Unified School District; Jane Fowler and Stephanie Newlon from the West Covina Unified School District; Georgia Warden from the Claremont Unified School District, and Lorraine Abel from the Glendora Unified School District.
More than 7,000 people, mostly teachers and teaching aides, attended the conference Nov. 8 through Nov. 10. The conference workshops focused on techniques to enhance student reading skills in various subjects at all grade levels, said spokeswoman Barbara Ricchio.
