THOUSAND OAKS : Residents Can Speak on Schools Contract
Thousand Oaks residents will have a chance to comment Tuesday night on the Conejo Valley Unified School District’s contract proposal affecting 600 union employees.
The public hearing is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Westlake High School.
School officials want to continue basing raises for classified workers on the amount of money the district receives from the state. The district also wants to do away with lottery bonuses and an early retirement program for classified workers.
The California School Employees Assn., which represents secretaries, custodians, and maintenance and food service workers, has proposed a 30% raise over the next three years, plus 15% of the district’s lottery money each year. During the past three years, classified workers have received raises of 2.88% to 4.59%, in addition to 8% of the district’s lottery funds.
Negotiations on the contract, which expires Dec. 31, are expected to begin in early December, officials said.
