CAMARILLO : Teacher Negotiations End in Stalemate

Share

A weekend negotiation session between officials and teachers in the Pleasant Valley Elementary School District ended in a stalemate Saturday night, but both sides agreed to meet again in February to continue contract talks.

The district’s 300 teachers, who are in the final year of a three-year contract, are asking for parity in pay with other county school districts. They also want the district to pay more toward health benefits in the new contract, said Ina Lea Parker, president of the Pleasant Valley Educators Assn.

Besides salary and benefits, each side is allowed to bring up an additional issue. The district wants to clarify the policy governing transfers by teachers and other teaching personnel within the district. The teachers are asking for more class preparation time.
