Postal Service Franchiser Posts 3rd-Quarter Profit

Mail Boxes Coast to Coast Inc., the nation’s largest franchiser for the postal-service chain Mail Boxes Etc., reported a third-quarter profit of $17,767 compared with a year-earlier loss of $92,177.

The Glendale-based company said the profit came on little change in revenue--$214,677 compared with $215,291 a year ago--and stemmed mostly from the previously announced sale of its Long Island, Brooklyn and Staten Island franchises in New York.

For the first nine months of this year, Mail Boxes Coast to Coast had net income of $81,199, compared with a $517,420 loss a year earlier. Its nine-month revenue rose to $592,652 from $397,181.
