Pomona : Police to Buy Truck, Trailer

Share

The Pomona City Council has voted to spend $75,121 for a truck and specially equipped 35-foot trailer to be used by the Police Department as a field command post.

Police Chief Lloyd J. Wood said the trailer could be used during crime sweeps in gang areas or when checkpoints are set up to catch drunk drivers. In addition, he said, the trailer could be stationed in various neighborhoods to deter crime and promote community involvement.

Monday’s vote was 4 to 0, with Councilman Tomas Ursua abstaining. He said he would rather spend money on a program to help the homeless, diverting them from crime. Councilwoman Nell Soto, who initiated the command post project, said, “I’m sympathetic to the plight of the homeless, but we need to provide police protection.”
