Long Beach : New Director Takes Over Gay, Lesbian Service Center

Share

Megan Rose, former administrator of the Gay and Lesbian Community Service Center of Orange County, has been named director of The Center, the largest gay and lesbian service facility in Long Beach. Rose officially assumed her duties Nov. 5.

Rose succeeds Lee Balan, who was laid off a year ago in an organizational reshuffle aimed at heading off a projected $20,000 shortfall. While the organization’s financial situation remains precarious, said John Westfall, an executive assistant at One in Long Beach Inc., The Center’s parent corporation, the budget has now been balanced. “We don’t have any excess money whatsoever,” Westfall said, “but we will meet our obligations.”

Since Balan’s departure in October, 1989, he said, The Center has been run by a series of part-time volunteer directors.
