Laguna Beach to Appeal OK of Smithcliffs Development
The City Council has voted to appeal the Orange County Planning Commission’s approval of the Smithcliffs development between Laguna Beach and the unincorporated Emerald Bay community.
Smithcliffs, a development of 26 homes on a 10.4-acre coastal site, would tax Laguna Beach’s public services, including fire and police, City Manager Kenneth C. Frank said.
The Planning Commission decision will be appealed to the Board of Supervisors.
The development has also been opposed by area residents and environmentalists concerned about the monarch butterfly, which roosts each winter on the property.
