The U.N. Security Council is expected to convene as early as Monday to once again consider the Persian Gulf crisis, U.N. sources said Wednesday.

The focal point would be a draft resolution by Kuwait decrying the suffering its citizens have undergone since the Aug. 2 invasion by Iraq. The resolution condemns attempts by Iraq to alter the population of Kuwait and to destroy Kuwaiti government records.

The debate on the resolution would allow the Bush Administration and Kuwait to introduce before the council evidence of the mistreatment of Kuwait’s citizens under the Iraqi military occupation.
