Hayworth Dubber Due at Screening

Jo Ann Greer sang for such stars as Rita Hayworth, Esther Williams, June Allyson, Kim Novak and Gloria Grahame in the movies, but never received on-screen credit. On Saturday, the vocalist will make an appearance at a screening of the 1953 3-D film “Miss Sadie Thompson,” in which she sang for Hayworth.

She will answer questions about movie dubbing following the showing at 7:45 p.m., at the Vagabond Theatre, 2509 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles.

Greer’s vocals in “Sadie Thompson” were released on a Mercury Records sound-track album of the movie. But, in a situation not unlike the current case of pop group Milli Vanilli--where the actual singers do not receive credit on the album--Greer’s name appeared nowhere on the record or jacket.

Greer also was Hayworth’s voice in the songs “Bewitched” and “Zip” from the 1957 “Pal Joey.”

Also on the Vagabond bill Saturday, after the question-and-answer session with Greer, will be the 1946 Hayworth film “Gilda,” in which Hayworth’s classic performance of “Put the Blame on Mame” was actually sung by Anita Ellis.
