NATION : Tucson Store Recalls Turkeys
Nearly everyone who bought turkeys from a Tucson supermarket chain returned them after a man claimed to have injected some of the birds with cyanide.
Today, supermarket executives grappled with their next problem: what to do with the suspect food.
“The problem is they’ve all come in so quickly that they’re in boxes in the back (of the stores),” said Peter Barth, a lawyer for Smith’s Food & Drug stores at its Salt Lake City headquarters.
The supermarket chain had removed all turkeys from its four Tucson stores and offered refunds or exchanges to customers who recently had purchased turkeys. No stores outside of Tucson were affected.
