University of Florida athletic director Bill Arnsparger has decided to delete Vernon Maxwell’s junior and senior seasons from the Gator record book, making him the 21st leading all-time scorer at the school, after being No. 1.
NCAA sanctions ruled Maxwell ineligible for both the 1987 and 1988 NCAA tournaments because he had an agent. Arnsparger went a step further, adding regular season ineligibility.
Now Maxwell, a starting guard for the NBA’s Houston Rockets, loses 1,404 points and is credited with only 1,046 for his career. Ronnie Williams, who played for Florida from in 1980-’84, again becomes the school’s all-time scoring leader with 2,090 points.
