Magic, Hearn Charged With Wrong Response to Arrest of Worthy
James Worthy is arrested after trying to solicit sex from two undercover police officers in Houston. The event becomes the lead story on every local and national sports broadcast. A week earlier, after an especially tough NBA contest, Philadelphia 76er forward Charles Barkley comments that it was the kind of game that makes you want to beat your wife. Given a chance by a reporter to soften the comment, Barkley replies: “Nah, print it. . . . the women’s groups.” This comment goes almost unnoticed nationally. You tell me which man’s attitudes deserve media (and police) scrutiny.
