Girl, You Know It’s Hooey: Not only did Milli Vanilli lie about singing on its hit albums, but now it seems the disgraced pop duo even fudged its catchy moniker. When asked, the duplicitous duo has said the name meant positive energy in Turkish, but Serdar Demir, a Turkish native and secretary at the Turkish consulate in Los Angeles begs to differ. Milli, he says, means national as in national hero, or national sports team. Van is a city in Turkey. If one says Van Illi , he’s saying “Someone from the city of Van.” Vanilli , as one word, means nothing in Turkish.
