P.M. BRIEFING : Tokyo, Osaka Most Costly Cities
Tokyo wins the dubious distinction as the world’s most expensive city, closely followed by the Japanese city of Osaka, according to a study released today.
Two African capitals, Libreville in Gabon and Brazzaville in the Congo, earned the next highest rankings in the cost-of-living index compiled by the Geneva-based Corporate Resources Group, a private consulting group.
Six European cities--Oslo, Helsinki, Zurich, Geneva, Stockholm and Copenhagen--ranked in the top 10 most costly.
The survey, conducted during the first week of September, used costs in New York as a base of 100 and converted all foreign currencies into U.S. dollars.
With its score of 170, Tokyo ranked 70% more expensive than New York. Los Angeles scored 95, and San Francisco 93.
