West Covina : Drug Money for Computers

Share

The city will use money seized from drug traffickers to lease a new, advanced computer system for the Police Department at a monthly cost of $14,611.

The City Council on Monday unanimously approved the five-year lease from the Palo Alto-based Hewlett Packard computer company. Lt. Jim Dillon said the department’s current computer system, purchased in 1984, is obsolete.

The new system, to be delivered in March, will automate records of the entire public safety division, which includes the jail, dispatch division and fire stations. The council also approved $50,000 to upgrade equipment in the fire and dispatch divisions.
