Grace C. MacInnes; Retired Teacher

Grace C. MacInnes, a longtime resident of Van Nuys who taught elementary school classes in the San Fernando Valley for 22 years, has died in a Simi Valley nursing home.

She was 67.

Mrs. MacInnes died Saturday of cancer, said her daughter-in-law, Carol MacInnes.

Born June 22, 1923, in Newark, N.Y., she came to California in 1942 and later earned a bachelor’s degree and teaching credential from San Fernando Valley State College--now Cal State Northridge. She began teaching in 1966, working at several San Fernando Valley elementary schools, including Langdon Avenue School in Sepulveda. Mrs. MacInnes retired two years ago from Beachy Avenue School in Arleta, where she taught third grade.

She is survived by her son, Scott MacInnes of Simi Valley; a daughter, Bonnie MacInnes of San Francisco; mother, Anna Burzynski of Hollywood; brothers Jerry Burzynski of Hollywood and Jim Burzynski of Arkansas; sisters Dorothy Martino and Joyce Curtis of Hollywood; and four grandchildren. Her husband, John MacInnes, died in 1980.

A funeral, with burial to follow, is planned at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Old North Church at Forest Lawn Memorial-Park, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, in the Hollywood Hills. Donations can be made to a memorial fund in Mrs. MacInnes’ name at St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church in Van Nuys.
