Rosemead : Vote on Fireworks Dropped

Share

Rosemead voters won’t get a chance to advise the city whether to continue the sale of “safe and sane” fireworks, the City Council decided last week.

The council voted 3 to 0 not to place on the March 5 ballot an advisory measure on future fireworks sales in the city.

Mayor Dennis McDonald, a fire marshal and battalion chief for the city of El Monte, had suggested that the measure be put before the voters. However, after hearing from representatives of local youth groups, which raise funds by selling the fireworks, the council decided against the measure. McDonald was not present.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department, which provides fire service to Rosemead, supports a ban on fireworks, except those used in public fireworks displays.
