Azusa Pacific University has received two substantial gifts that will bolster financial aid and assist the music school at the interdenominational Christian school.

The estate of John Newhouse of Arcadia has donated $333,357 to underwrite student scholarships. Nancy Loncaric of Long Beach has given $175,000 to the School of Music. Total contributions announced at the school’s annual fund-raising dinner totaled $760,000.

Additional good news for the Azusa school is that enrollment is up 7.7%, to 3,159 students, over this time last year. This increase comes at a time when other area schools are having to adjust to enrollment declines, said Ron D’Avis, media-relations coordinator.
