A 53-year-old Fullerton man has been selected to head the West Coast branch of ACTION, the federal agency that oversees several national volunteer groups.

Fernando Zepeda, a Fullerton resident for six years, is now the associate administrator of operations for the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services. He will take over management of the San Francisco office of ACTION at the end of December.

Zepeda said Tuesday that he hopes to use his experience with other volunteer agencies to continue to spur Americans to become more involved with others.

Zepeda served 20 years in the Air Force, retiring as a captain. Since then, he has worked with a number of health-care agencies, including serving as director of the Office of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism for Los Angeles County.
