HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL : Bonita Vista Rallies Past Kearny in Tournament

The Bonita Vista High boys’ basketball team, which trailed after every quarter, outscored Kearny in the fourth to defeat the Comets, 49-46, at the Hilltop Tournament at Hilltop High Tuesday.

The Barons trailed, 15-8, after the first quarter but by halftime trailed by only three, 25-22.

David Rusk scored 15 points for Bonita Vista and Rope Perry added 11.

In other Hilltop Tournament games:

Chula Vista 82, La Jolla 68--Chula Vista’s Jerome Green led all scorers with 35 points. Teammate Cesa Martinez added 18 points. La Jolla was led by John West with 18 points and David Alexandar with 11. Chula Vista, which outscored La Jolla in each quarter, led 41-28 at halftime.

Sweetwater 57, Point Loma 41--Melvyn Rushing scored a game-high 24 points to lead Sweetwater (2-1). Pat Woodson added 21. Point Loma is 1-2.

Nonleague

Army-Navy 89, Tri-City Christian 62--Phil Parks scored 19 points and had 20 rebounds for Army-Navy (3-2). Teammates Jim Choi scored 18 points and Dan Cho added 17 points and seven assists.
