Long Beach : Auditor Suggests Hot Line to Report Fraud and Waste

Share

The city auditor wants to set up a telephone hot line for Long Beach city employees “to report known cases of fraud, waste and abuse.”

In a confidential memo distributed Nov. 30 to all city department heads, Robert Fronke noted that his department periodically receives calls from “concerned employees reporting inappropriate actions of co-workers.” The memo proposed that auditors investigate such complaints and discuss findings with department heads. Currently, city employees can air grievances with the Civil Service Commission.

“If used appropriately by employees, this hot line should make great contributions toward more efficient and effective operations, as it is our employees in the field who truly see what is going on,” the memo said.
