Lear Folds Channels Magazine: Norman Lear’s Act III Communications stopped publication of its biweekly TV trade magazine, Channels, after it was unable to find a buyer. The highly regarded magazine, which published in-depth and authoritative stories on the television business, was never able to become regularly profitable despite its respect in the industry. “It’s a victim of a real bad market for magazines and the timing of Norman wanting to get out of the business,” said former Editor Les Brown, who started it in 1981 as a nonprofit publication. Lear bought the magazine in 1985.
