PRO FOOTBALL REPORT / WEEKDAY UPDATE : RAMS : Saints Will Be Facing Double Trouble

Share

Even though Flipper Anderson set an NFL single-game record with 336 receiving yards against New Orleans the last time the Rams played the Saints, he doesn’t think the Saint defense will focus on him Sunday at Anaheim Stadium.

“I don’t think so, because Henry (Ellard)’s there,” Anderson said. “They can’t just concentrate on me and not worry about Henry. Henry can beat them, too.”

Ellard didn’t play in that game against the Saints because of a sore hamstring.

The Rams know all about New Orleans linebacker Pat Swilling, who got three of the Saints’ 12 sacks against the Rams in last year’s two games. The Rams gave up only 20 sacks to the rest of the league in their 14 other games.

“There’s no doubt when you play the New Orleans Saints, they’ve got Swilling and Rickey Jackson,” quarterback Jim Everett said. “When they’ve got those guys coming up the corner . . . they’re legit.

“(Swilling) is good, and he matches up well with Irv (Pankey, the Rams’ left tackle). Irv does an outstanding job, but he’s a hell of a matchup for him.”
