Concerning Margo Kaufman’s funny article on being in the loop (“Off the Inside Track,” Oct. 21), I noted her comment about English crop circles popping up in the news as filler. I visited a number of the biggest and most complex this summer in Wiltshire, and many readers may not know that more than 1,000 were made so far in 1990, with precision and increasing complexity, often by day as well as at night, in under 30 seconds each, or so say a number of direct eye-witnesses. They now form glyphs in chains, some sort of mysterious sentences in a foreign language, and if they are made by some unknown and powerful force, then the news programs are wise to feature them.

They could be more important to us than the Persian Gulf events.
