Fur Flying: Animal rights activists caused a stir at the opening of the La Scala opera season in Milan on Friday night when they hurled tomato juice at women wearing furs. “This is not the temple of bel canto but an exhibition of furs which drip blood!” a man shouted as he was dragged out of the theater. Police said the three demonstrators were released without charge. La Scala’s gala night, inaugurating the opera season of Italy’s most renowned theater, has a long tradition of protests.
